INTRODUCTION

Life From Death

Brief: Create an artwork using discarded or recycled material. It can be anything. There’s no size limit. Your artwork can be 2D or 3D.
You need to include a short and clear artist’s statement of no more than 400 words. It needs to be highly reflective and concisely written.
Your goal here is to have fun and push your imagination.

I’m not one to keep junk or unwanted items or materials around, but I had a look around my house anyway only to find old scraps of paper and paper bags, which lead me to my great idea – nature’s wasteland. The season is now Autumn and the outdoors is currently a sea of fallen leaves. I gathered up different colours, sizes, and varieties of leaves, dead plants, and broken twigs. While doing so, I had a think about what I could create with these. A few ideas came to mind, but one idea stuck, grew, and became final.

Below you can see my ideas in the form of sketches, the final artwork, a process video, and a mind map I constructed prior to writing my artist statement, followed by the artist statement itself.
